Integrasense and Bentwater Brewing Co.

Integrasense has collaborated with Bentwater Brewing Co. on the new expansion of their brewery in Lynn, MA. The goal was to improve production efficiency and to automate more of the processes. As a result of this work together, we have developed new products and solutions:

  • “Tru-Temp” Fermenter controller with LCD Display
  • “Tru-Carb” Brite Tank / Carbonation controller with LCD Display
  • Cellar supervisory control and monitoring system – with 21” EXOR X700 Series Operator Interface

The “Tru-Temp” controller is used for the fermentation process which is where yeast is added to the wort (a mixture of grains, hops and water) to convert the sugars to alcohol. The “Tru-Temp” controller ensures that the wort is maintained at the appropriate temperature as it is converted to beer. The temperature of the brew is especially crucial for the first 12 hours of fermentation because it can have a large effect on the flavor of the beer. If the temperature of the brew is too high, yeast could grow abundantly and will eat up any nutrients in the beer. Contrarily, if the temperature of the brew is too cold, fermentation will be slow and could give bacteria and contaminants more opportunity to grow. There is more to the fermentation process than just setting a temperature and leaving it. Different strains of yeast ferment at different temperatures and the process of fermentation is exothermic- so it produces its own heat. It is crucial to be able to cool down the fermentation once it has taken off. The “Tru-Temp” controller not only regulates the temperature, but also provides automated scheduling of temperature changes as needed during the different phases of the process- such as stabilizing and crashing.

The “Tru-Carb” controller is for the brite tank / carbonation process. Once the beer has been fermented and has cleared, the beer is put into brite tanks where it is chilled and carbonated. Both temperature and pressure play big roles during this process because the relationship of temperature and pressure is directly related to how much carbonation the beer can maintain.  The lower the temperature, the more carbonation the beer can have. Different kinds of beer will have different amounts of carbonation. The “Tru-Carb” controller monitors the temperature of the tank as well as controls the pressure and amount of carbon dioxide put into the tank. Once optimum carbonation is obtained, the controller switches to an automated mode to maintain the beer until bottled.

The Cellar supervisory controller utilizing EXORs X700 Series Operator Interface provides full visualization and control of the Fermentation and Carbonation systems. Each beer can be optimized with a unique recipe which is automatically synchronized with the associated “Tru-Temp” or “Tru-Carb” controller. Each phase of the process is monitored and validated via the Cellar control system.  The system also provides prompting of any manual steps needed such as additions of ingredients, variances, or alarm conditions.  All events and process values are recorded for historical viewing via charts or storage to reports. The system is also accessible locally across the facility or remotely via a secure connection.

Integrasense Receives Certification

We are pleased to announce that Integrasense has received MET certification for the design and manufacture of UL508A industrial control panels. Eurofins MET labs (a nationally recognized, independent product safety testing and certification organization -NRTL) announced today that it has certified Integrasense to design, build and label products compliant to UL508A and National Electric Code standards. The MET Panel Shop Program covers proper component usage, enclosure environmental ratings, and conformance to National Electric Code (NEC) standards for panels intended for use in virtually any non-hazardous location.

  • MET certification provides the inspection authority and the customer evidence that our control panels comply with nationally recognized safety standards. These standards ensure safety, and provide assurances that the electrical control panel is compliant with national and local electrical codes.
  • Integrasense is subject to periodic unannounced inspections of our facilities by MET labs personnel. Through periodic audits, Met labs can insure that we continue to meet the requirements for UL508A.
  • Unlike UL, MET will accept all NRTL-approved or recognized components.
  • Our MET Listed Mark is accepted by the Authority Having Jurisdiction in every area of the United States.

“We are eagerly looking forward to providing this increased level of service and quality assurance to our customers. Providing this option of MET / UL508A certified control panels can save our customers and end users time and money on costly field inspections and the associated unpredictable outcome.”

Integrasense Sponsors February LSPA Meeting

On February 12, 2019, Integrasense sponsored the Massachusetts LSPA February membership meeting which highlighted the DEP’s guidelines “Telemetry on Active Exposure Pathway Mitigation Measures: A Look at Related Audit Findings and Challenges for LSPs and MassDEP.”

The LSP Association (LSPA) is a professional association of 850 members in which about half are Licensed Site Professionals (LSPs). LSPs work with regulators, lawmakers, and environmental professionals to help bring contaminated properties into regulatory compliance. The LSPA supports the clean-up and reuse of properties with hazardous waste as well as protecting the health and safety of Massachusetts’ citizens.

Integrasense has developed a telemetry system called the “Environmental Gateway,” which monitors environmental controls and ventilation systems while also being compliant with the MassDEP’s requirements. The Environmental Gateway system provides quick and easy deployment to monitor site equipment and to provide remote accessibility and alarms to engineers, facility owners, and government agencies.

USTR Announces Additional Tariff On Chinese Products

As of July 6, 2018, an additional duty of 25% has been placed on about $50 billion worth of imports from China that are used in industrial technology. This tariff has come about due to a Section 301 investigation where the United States Trade Representative (USTR) found China’s practices and policies around technology to burden U.S. Commerce and to be discriminatory and unreasonable.

The list of products is comprised of two sets of U.S. tariff lines. The first set contains 818 lines covering approximately $34 billion worth of imports, and the second set contains 284 proposed tariff lines covering approximately $16 billion worth of imports. The list of products with the additional tariff are products from industrial sectors and are not goods commonly purchased by American consumers. The full extent of the tariff will be completed by December 2018.

Follow this link for a notice on how this tariff affects you and Integrasense:
